Six Ways To Get Back To Work When You’re Tired

ID-10021635As I write this post it’s late evening, almost 10 o’clock. I wanted to write a post tonight but when I write it usually takes me a couple of hours with the writing, re-reading, proofing, editing and finally finding the appropriate pictures to accommodate my post.

It just takes a lot of time and today I’m tired. 🙁

But instead of not doing a post at all, I figured I’d just write about my day and what do we as entrepreneurs when we’re just plain tired.

Do you keep going and blog anyway or do you say ‘I’ll do it tomorrow?’   For me, it was a ‘I’ll do it tomorrow…but changed my mind to see if I could just put a few words down, good or bad, doesn’t matter as long as I stay in the groove.

Should I be concerned about content? Yes, absolutely, but today I’m more concerned about consistency.

Effective Consistency

I’ve written about effective consistency as a guest blogger on Adrienne Smith’s blog and how it keeps us going. That is what I’m practicing tonight for the sake of my blog.

Even when your day goes like this. I left the house this morning at 7 a.m. Awoke at 6. Arrived at work at 8 a.m and returned home at 8 p.m. with an hour travel to get home.

Can I tell you how tired I was when I came in? I mean dead tired, brain-fried, weepy, weak, hungry…did I say dead tired?!

I Want My Fluffy Slippers!!

I was so tired that I went to my room to get my slippers and I couldn’t find them. I searched everywhere and finally gave up and put on my flip flops when I really wanted my soft, fluffy, comfortable slippers after a long day at work!

My daughter comes home about 1 hour later and by chance I asked her ‘have you seen my slippers’ and she says ‘Yes. I have them.’ Do you know that brought me to tears LOL! Silly me!

But that is the kind of day I had. So when I realized I needed to write a post tonight, I wanted to cry again.

I didn’t have a topic in mind and that too is part of the problem.

Well, I finally decided just to write what I was feeling for ‘effective consistency.’ It would have been so easy to just give up and call it a night. I know my exhaustion will carry into tomorrow, but as entrepreneurs, consistency is what keeps us going.

I read a post today on Sherman Smith’s blog and it talked about bounce rate and ways to lower it and I realized that my effective consistency is what has kept my bounce rate down to 20%. That helped make my day too.

Tired and More Tired

You see most of us are working two jobs. We may be blogging and working as an entrepreneur and most of us have a full time ‘regular’ job.

It is a fact of life that most of us ‘live to work’ when we really want to ‘work to live.‘

We want security and a good life, to spend time and provide for our families, we want vacation time when we want it and reporting in to know one.

Entrepreneurs are a unique people as we prove that at the end of the day, we put on our entrepreneur hat and keep on working, no matter how we feel.

We are motivated to keep going like the Energizer bunny even when we’re drop dead tired.

So here I am, writing a post, good or bad. Hopefully good and hopefully, one that will resonate with others like me.

Today, I just wanted to tell you what to do when we still need to move and groove as a blogger and an entrepreneur.

At the end of the day, if you’re tired and don’t feel like blogging, when all else fails, what do you do?

Six Ways To Get Back To Work When You’re Tired

  1. Remember we have to be consistent in order to succeed. Take a quick break, relax and free your mind for a minute.
  2. Remember your ‘why’ to give you encouragement and motivation to get the job done for ‘this’ day.
  3. Pray. No kidding. It got me through today. A prayer was answered. I felt relief.
  4. A dab of wine will do ya? Smile Yep, it’s true, but I’m kinda joking. If not wine, then something that makes you relax and take your mind off ‘work’ for a minute.
  5. Relax and laugh – Watch a funny movie, a comedy. For me, it was a friend who called tonight and told me he had poison ivy in ‘places we don’t want to talk about’ LOL! I asked ‘how’d that happen’ and the story had me laughing hysterically for hours after. Freeing my mind and my heart to relax and get to work on my post later.
  6. Listen to music.  Something relaxing, something silly – anything that will take your mind off your troubles and tiredness.

So that’s it and it’s over to you.  How do you get back in the groove when you’re tired.

    Hi Barbara,

    What an amusing share! Sometimes when we get tired, we do need to take a little break and do one of those six things you have mentioned above. I usually grab a cup of coffee because it is soothing and relaxing to me. Although I would prefer a glass of wine, if I’m tired, it would knock me out he he.

    Pumping up some music also is another great way to lift my spirits – I usually will play some old disco because it’s neuro-linked to my subconscious of those good old dancing days of mine!

    When all else fails, I do pray! Oh yes…Praying always gets me through no matter what obstacle comes about.

      Hey Donna,

      I’ll send a pic of my fluffy slippers! Too big, black and ugly and very furry and my feet sink down in to them every time. It’s like putting on an old comfy sweater.

      Wine sounds good although I’m not a big wine drinker. It would definitely knock me out! And I love that old disco music too….tooo funny! But you know me…loud music and dancing til later in the morning. Love it!

      Glad to know that many of us pray just to get us through. That is encouraging to me as well.

    You pulled me in with that title, that’s for sure!

    I’ve been tired a lot lately, maybe it’s because my metabolism is slowing down.

    I find that if I push through sometimes, I miss something critical, and while I do have a schedule of posting, the time is not do or die for me. 🙂

    Totally agree with the need for consistency, and if I didn’t have a plan, I’d be all over the place, helter skelter….

    I do pray, so that is a wonderful tip and resonates with me. Yeah, need to remember my “why” – I used to have a goal poster, but when I moved, it got lost!

    Music does help and lifts the mood, but I can’t concentrate with it above a whisper in the background so don’t really use it while working.

    I do like the sound of a coffee shop in the background and have often used coffitivity while working, it actually helps my productivity.

      Thank so much for visiting my blog. I know about metabolism slowing down. Shoot…I’m getting way too old for this stuff and physically, it’s sometimes just hard to keep going when you just want to rest. We have no choice but to push through that. Scheduling will keep us on track for sure.

      Music soothes the savage beast within me and I have to have it LOUD! Singing and dancing! That gets all my stress out and works for me.

      We all have to find our relaxation level and it’s amazing how it will relax us enough to keep moving forward.
      Be encouraged – we’ll all going to get there! 🙂

    You poor thing yet you cranked out this post and what a good post this is too Barbara!

    I’m like you, I can’t just sit down and write out a post in nothing flat. I’ve been blogging now for about six years and I still can’t do it. Writing is one thing then you have the editing, finding the images, resizing them, compressing them, setting everything up, getting it ready to publish and then write your autoresponder message. My goodness, writing the content sounds easy with everything else you do.

    The other day I was like that. Dog ass tired girl, I kid you not. I could barely hold my eyes open so there is no way I could write a post which is why I can’t wait until the night before but I do write mine the day before. Fortunately for me I do work at home and can fit that in my schedule where you’re at work and when you have four nights like that in a row I don’t know how the heck you do it. Consistent or not, I wouldn’t be able to function.

    I applaud women like you that not only are raising a family alone but working outside the home too all while building a business on the side. I sometimes feel like a very small person compared to all that you do and you do it well my friend. You might not think that at times but you’re here, you haven’t quit and you’ve built up a great business in your network marketing opportunity. That says a LOT!

    I admire you Barbara so thank you for sharing this and that little plug for your guest post at my place. You’re right, consistency does matter whether we want it to or not.

      Awwww girl thank you. Wow I certainly don’t think I have anything to admire, but thank you so much. I appreciate you being my friend ’cause I get a lot of my inspiration from you. 🙂

      I truly don’t know how people write a post a day like some folks. Like you said, it’s hard enough just trying to get through the day, then with all that’s involved in writing a post it seems unsurmountable at times to keep on going. Why do people make it seem so easy? I want to know how they do that lol!

      But I was just saying today to a friend that I want to so badly leave a legacy for my children so they don’t have to struggle so much later on in their lives. That is my why and that is what drives me. So even when we’re ‘dog ass tired’ (I really like that, lol!) if we don’t keep going, life will pass us by and we would have not accomplished anything. I think that drives me as well.

      Thank you for thinking we’re something special, but we just do what we got to do, just like everyone else. Can’t quit! No one should quit when they’ve invested themselves and their time in the business building. We’ve got to keep going as we might be right there on the verge of success when a person quits and ”just’ the next minute, may have been ‘their minute’! And they quit. I keep going ’cause I don’t want to lose my minute!

      So consistency matters, but also perseverance and good friends who encourage us and stand by our sides at all times. 🙂

      Thanks for the support and encouragement. Still testing press releases and will do a post to share that experience. Salespider has been around. I’ve done some business on it and ready to get back in to it because it was good when I was in Memphis. Not a lot of sales, but definitely if I had promoted more I think it would have been better.

      Hittails pulls from Google Webmaster tools and makes is easily readble. That’s the difference. It’s awesome. . The difference and added features are here.

    Thanks for sharing this. I am in admiration of you that you stuck with it and got a post out. I am a little more inclined to put it off when I am that tired. Not always but if I am at tear point I usually cannot work.

    Watching comedy and mindless stuff on television works for me. Music also works as does listening to a meditation audio – in fact that is my favorite way to shake feeling tired.

      Feeling great after the next day. I used to be inclined to put it off, but then days would go by so I need to stick to a schedule. Tiredness comes and goes depending on the week. It’s been a busy week-end so back to same old tired. 🙂 But I’ll hit the sack early tonight so it’ll be better in the a.m. I also like watching TV or doing something that requires little thought. Gets me through the night but distracts me too so I have to try to get work done first.

    Great tips, Barbara!!

    I really need to start incorporating #2 into my routine…remembering my why! I want to start a morning routine where I get back to my intentions, pray, and get inspired for the morning ahead. I always feel like I’m rushing around like a crazy woman in the mornings. So, I’m working on changing that habit.

    I’m actually tired right now and think I’ll go for a walk to wake me up. Wine sounds great (because I love me some wine), but it usually makes me even more tired when I drink it while sleepy.

      My ‘why’ is a constant reminder as it involves my children. I believe a why must be something that is ‘clearly’ right in front of you and that helps us stay focused automatically.

      Morning routines definitely work although I’m bad at that. Because I’m tired it’s hard to remember what needs to be done daily unless I write things down. I also try to get everything done at night so I don’t have to rush around in the morning. I hate to rush in the a.m. I want to get everything done at night so I focus only on getting dressed and getting out in the a.m.

      For me wine is good anytime. 🙂

    Hey Barbara,

    well done, you were ultra tired and you still managed to put out a great post. When blogging consistency is certainly the key to success. I’ve been trying to write a post a day in my latest blog because I want Google to recognise it as soon as possible.

    To help with consistency I’ve come up with certain posts that I can post regularly, like my Jokes post, that I’ve found works really well with Wassupblog. I don’t plan to do this indefinitely. That would be too taxing. I missed a post the other day, I just didn’t have the time, but that didn’t bother me because it is so new and my readership wouldn’t have missed it.

      I’ve never been a proponent of writing a post everyday although I know many people who have. It doesn’t fit into my lifestyle. It takes up too much time, and Google may or may not recognize your blog. I also don’t feel we always put out great content that way, but many people do. It just takes me time to write good content and sometimes it’s worth thinking about. That’s why I wrote an article on effective consistency. Being consistent gets me the same results as someone who writes daily if you’ve built up a following.

      Let me know if your strategy for a post a day works. I always want to know how that strategy really works out for people.

    These tips are GREAT and much needed. I’m at a moment in life where I’m working a tremendous amount of work hours, and this gives me that little reminder and preparation for my tomorrow – which is going to be exactly what you’ve mentioned here! The good ol’ 6am – 8pm work day. Certainly going to fill the day with music…a few breaks…and yes, a glass a wine sounds just about PERFECT!

    I wish I can write a great post like this one when I am that tired. Great Job!! Speak about consistency.

    Indeed, consistency is key. I also post once a week, but I do prepare 2 or 3 posts ahead of time, just in case. I also have 3 teens in the house and they keep me very busy and sometimes, I am knocked out tired and there is no way I can write a post like how you did here but I try hard to be consistent with my blogging schedule.

    What keeps me going when I am tired are my kids who are my WHY and also prayers because without the help and grace from GOD, I can’t do it. Prayers do get me through.

    If we see people at downwards we never be tired nor be disgruntled of howsoever we are working hard. You pointed you came back home at 8 for 9 clock in the night and I was just thinking while reading this how many times last year I reached home so earlier at this time. Usually I get back home at 11 pm.
    So how busy we are is not much important but how we take our busy schedule it is more important.
    Anyways lets talk to your post. It is wonderfully written and never gave any impression anywhere that it was written by person hellishly tired of the whole day heck of hard labor. Its ideas, thoughts and views are as fresh as cucumber. It shows fatigue of body has nothing to do with mind power. 🙂

    It happens with us all that we get tired and then think not to work again.
    For part time bloggers it’s hard to get time to work at their blog daily. But as you have said we should keep in our mind that consistency is what we need to achieve our goal.

    I really like the suggestions you have given. Sometimes we need to laugh for making our mind fresh and away from work load.

    Hi Barbara,

    I’ve been very inconsistent with my travel blog lately, because I don’t’ have 2 jobs but more like 3.

    One is that stupid 9-5 I’m still going to everyday, which I’m trying very to quit (thus making me busier).
    The Second is doing the work for the few clients that I have, and third is doing my blogging/marketing and commenting on other blogs.

    On top of that Sophie’s health added to my schedule. I do spend some time on energy healing and meditative prayers that I’ve learned about, so since there isn’t any more than 24 hours in a day, it just added to my already darn busy life.

    With summer here now, I am also trying to release stress on a daily basis, by going to my favorite park each day where I do my EFT 🙂 walk and run. Then when I get back home I drop by the pool and swim for a few minutes. That really help me.

    Wine doesn’t do anything to me anymore 🙂 except that I like it, but I don’t fee it LOL.

      I so feel what you’re saying right now. It is like having 3 jobs: blogging, working the 9 to 5, even the travel. I guess that is our goal as Internet bloggers to make enough money to work from home, but in the meantime, we have to find a way get past our tiredness. I like that you walk in the park…that can be certainly relaxing. Thanks for the idea. It’s a great one. Swimming is also very good for relaxing. Water does amazing things for us and it can be mindless and enjoyable. Just what we need to unwind. I love the suggestions and now that it’s summer, I think I’ll try it.

      Wine is just enjoyable for sure, but many people do get a little bit relaxed. It certainly helps me! 😉

    The way you got this idea to transform your normal day into a blog post my god!!! that is mind blowing.
