How To Renew Your Business Like A Rampaging Zombie

ID-10018835Well, it’s February! Wow! The 2nd month of the year of 2015 already! Good grief.

We opened up the Year 2015 with tons of advice  for our readers from how to be successful in 2015 to how to get traffic in 2015!

Let’s face it, we’ve got lots of inspiration, modification, tools and enlightenment the first month of 2015!

That’s Awesome! I’ve learned so much in the first month of 2015. Where is the time going?  But I digress.

The thing is I’ve got lots of new stuff for 2015 and I’m excited about it, but I also have some great old posts that I wrote a couple of years ago that you may not have seen.

One in particular goes along with the theme of a new year coming in.  I’d like to share it with you because it will help you when you need something to keep you going toward your goals for success particularly when things get rough?

It’s a re-post of one of my articles, updated as it can be, designed to inspire you again and again toward success. It’s a little weird, but I hope you enjoy it.

It’s A Zombie Epidemic….I Mean Blogging Epidemic!

Yep!  You see, you know you’re an entrepreneur when you can relate ‘any’ topic to being an entrepreneur or to your business. LOL!  So get ready and listen up 🙂

Well first, what is a zombie?   A dead thing, like some people’s businesses or websites.  Yep…I said it!  Sad, but true! Real talk here! So why am I talking about zombies, blogging and business and how do these things relate?

Because many people (not zombies) 🙂 struggle with their businesses and their blogging as they strive to get business and readers to their websites.

Most of us complain about making more money, getting more comments, getting more readers, etc., but some people get no readers at all.

When this trend continues with your blog or your business, entrepreneurs have a tendency to quit.

That’s what this post is all about.  How do you renew your business like a rampaging zombie? Check it out!

The Blogging Apocalypse

The zombie apocalypse is in full swing.  There is a zombie movie epidemic and personally I can’t figure out ‘why?’!

Anything that gets up after its dead and starts walking, eating, ripping off legs and limbs and stuff, I don’t want to watch.  But as an avid Sci-Fi fan, I’ve watched a few. 😉

Just like the zombie epidemic with more movies and shows than there are stars in the sky, there is also a blogging epidemic!  Bloggers are  coming online in droves for a number of reasons.

As the Internet is filled with bloggers, most appear (and there are no hard fast statistic on this) to be Internet Marketers.  Regardless of what type of blogger you are and why you are here, here are some tips to help you renew your business like a rampaging zombie.

1.  Find a Mad, Mad Scientist…I Mean A Coach To Help

ID-10096218You’ve heard me say this before – you have to find a mad, mad scientist, in other words A Coach!  A coach, a mentor or anyone who will teach you how to revive or work your business online.

There are many of them out there.  Many who have attained some measure of success and feel they can teach others.

I think I just mentioned recently that I hired Donna and David Merrill to help me revive and guide me even though I’ve been blogging for 4 years!  I also have a mentor and friend who is constantly there for me.  Most of you know Adrienne Smith.

Everyone needs to figure out what you lack and move to find it or find someone who will help you.

Times, tools and technology changes constantly so I want to know the new, exciting tools, methods, actions and methodologies needed to be successful in 2015.  You too should have this desire.

So I’ll say it again – its worth finding a coach and determining if you have any weaknesses, what’s missing and work to correct them.

The mad scientist, I mean coaches, 🙂 will have qualifications that vary so you have to be careful to find someone who has truly done well and works hard at helping others.

Because these coaches/mad scientists have developed a plan that ‘may’ work for you,  make sure they are reliable, trustworthy, have integrity and some level of teaching skills.

See my post Are You A Good Internet Marketing Coach? on what to look for in a coach.

2.   Set A Timeframe For Your Success

Make sure you set a timeframe  and measure your success results.

If you have not attained a level of success within a certain time frame, change your strategy or find additional help.

Don’t sit on it doing nothing. You have to go out and get it…like a zombie looking for food!

You want results!  Are you hungry for your business to be successful?  Why should you wait a year or more for some results?

I went through 3-4 coaches before I found one that actually started teaching me how to do Internet Marketing and how to brand myself.

Each one of those teachers taught me valuable things I was able to use, but I didn’t get the clear, whole picture until I got to the 4th!

Now, I have Donna and David Merrill as they teach me about building a sales funnel and coach me on getting a product done.  It’s all a growing process

You will learn much in your blogging journey so relish it.  Use it wisely and apply what you learn as much as you can.

3.  Determine what Success Means To You

To a zombie all that is important is eating and that means persistence!

Persistence keeps a zombie full and looking for more!   If he’s eating he’s successful.  If he loses a meal (yeah, gross right?!) 🙂 from one direction, he changes to go to another to reach his goal – always eating!

As a business entrepreneur/blogger, you have to be persistent for success and know when to change direction to get where you need to go.

For instance, I’m a network marketer and many network marketing leaders say ‘it takes time’ and that is true.  But I’m a firm believer that I should get some return, even a few dollars or my investment back.

I’ve been in 3 network marketing companies in my lifetime (over 50 years).  The first one, I received $100 checks monthly for the first year.  Now some people may say that’s not enough or they promised me more.

But I didn’t set my expectation so high that it was unrealistic.    An extra $100 a month was something that told me that it worked and that was encouraging to me.

The 2nd one was much better economically, and I started out making  about $100 a month which fast grew within 3-4 months to $6600/month for an extended number of years!  Not bad, right?

But then the recession hit and  people slowly dwindled away like the economy did.  However, in my mind – I knew it still worked and stayed encouraged.

Again, my expectations were re-set to reality.  I didn’t worry about trying to compete with the leaders or the 2% who are making thousands and thousands of dollars (or so they say).

The 3rd one – not so successful – more because of the product and the leadership than anything else.  Checks started out at around $25/mo and consistently brought in about $125 or so, monthly.

Finally, I went back to Company number 2 and as the economy gotten better, the money started rolling in again!  Why?

Persistence.  Each time I reset my expectations to something realistic.

As a network marketer, I can also call myself a zombie!  I never quit!  🙂

4.  What is a Zombie’s Why?

What is the Zombie’s greatest goal – the thing that drives ‘em to keep going no matter what?

To a zombie, success is eating.   As an Entrepreneur, we should have a goal and a passion and a drive to success! Always!  Whatever that Why is!!

We got to get that Zombie ‘Why’ Mentality yall!  The drive to get to our success should be as driven as Resident Evil 1, 2, 3 etc. or Night of the Living Dead.

Breaking down doors, raising hell and havoc to get to that ultimate destination!  So What is your Why?

If your WHY is as strong at a zombie’s – you can renew, start, and refresh and replenish your business.  Here’s a good article to read by Sue Price on your ‘why.’

5.  Move Like A Zombie

We have to move like the zombies – you can chop off their hands, their feet, stab ‘em, kill ‘em (oh sorry, forgot myself for a minute – they’re dead already – geeeesh!) 🙂 and they still keep coming trying to eat you!

As a zombie entrepreneur you gotta want to eat, to succeed beyond anything else, else you fail.  Zombies die when they don’t get to eat.  So do businesses!

4.  Don’t Give Up

Zombies DO NOT give up – EVER!  The walking dead never die…they keep going like the Energizer bunny!!!

You can take out his battery and that damn thing still keeps moving!   You can cut off its head (a leader may drop out), but the team will still keep going!

If you’re an entrepreneur/network marketer/business owner – you need to be zombie-like yourself in that you never, never stop, ever!  Zombies keep going after the prize!

Many of us will fail if we don’t do all that we can to get to a successful place in business.

Move like the zombies – never stop, never, ever, ever – ever!  If  you can’t find what you want in one place as an entrepreneur, a network marketer, a direct sales rep, an affiliate marketer or a blogger, CHANGE IT!

ID-100146402Don’t be afraid to say ‘I’m not making any money this way or with this company and I need to make a change.

Change is inevitable, less you stagnate, stop moving, and die – then you truly are a zombie.

If you want to be successful and renew yourself and your business, here’s what you do:

  • Find a coach who can help you. Find many. Find a Mastermind group – a positive one whose goal is everyone’s success.
  • Set a timeline on  your success and move on to something bigger, greater and better if you feel the need.  Don’t be afraid.
  • Don’t be unrealistic in your expectations.  Set realistic goals on how soon, how much, what for, etc.
  • If you don’t meet your goals (and they are realistic), find something else that will work for you.
  • Think like a zombie ROFLMBO!  Never, never give up….drag yourself by one hand, on one leg or one ear or by the tip of your nose if you have too, in order to get where you want to be.

Make your business like a Zombie Apocalypse!  Go, drive, eat and attain your success!  That’s what the zombies do, right? Or they wouldn’t be taking over the world. 🙂

Yep I’ve lost my mind on this one! LOL!  Hope to bring a little humor to your day!  So what do you think?  Am I crazy?  Or did you really get something out of this?

    Hi Barbara,

It was great to see you on Adrienne Smith’s blog today and connect with you. WOW! You commute an hour or two each day, work and still find the time to educate and share with your audience?

That just deflates an excuse a business owner has. Love it!!!

I agree with your sentiment completely. The one challenge a blog presents is that it requires if it’s going to be done well for business that the business owner who blogs truly understands the “real” business they are in…

Meaning, how does the public see them, want to engage or interact with them, be marketed to and communicated with; and ultimately be given the opportunity to buy from us.

That requires a lot of work and details. To your point of needing a coach, you cannot even begin to go through this process without one that understands marketing, sales and business.

You mentioned some wonderful people I deeply respect. Donna Merrill is a wonderful person who is extremely intelligent and experienced. Adrienne Smith… well what is there to say? She’s simply amazing.

It’s great to meet and connect with you Barbara!

I hope you have an awesome week.

      Hi Don,

Thanks for stopping by my blog and its a pleasure to meet you as well.

Yes I do commute a crazy commute and it takes up a lot of time, but if you want to run a business, you have to do the time! LOL! That’s what will make it successful and that’s all that can be said.

Another aspect of business to as you mentioned, we must learn what we need. Lessons in marketing, internet marketing (two different things) and for that we need coaches, mentors, etc. I think critical.

Yep, finally, my amazing friends are awesome. Both Donna and Adrienne are two top notch educators in this line of work as well as great people.

I hope you continue to come back and visit. Have a great visit.

    Hi Barbara,

I just love the way you used the Zombie as an analogy in this post! In order to succeed in any business the first thing we need to do is recognize it as business. I think that’s where a lot of people fall off. They just chase the dollar signs and get all distressed because they didn’t build a strong foundation.

It is a business!!!! And it is one that is YOU.Inc. Not another company! Now, you have so much experience in network marketing it’s crazy! You have that business mentality and you can go from business a to b and back. But what sets you aside is that you are a Network Marketer and it is Barbara Charles.Inc that can do it. You can teach others the right way of going about it because of all our experience offline and online.

You never give up! And that is the way we have to deal with business. A recession can come and go, there will be times where things are slow and with a strong business mindset, you know how to get around those problems. Keep on Going!!!

Yes, Indeed one needs a coach. And I thank you so much for choosing David and I and for mentioning that on this post. But I had coaches too…lots of them for various things from building my blog effectively in the old days to creating products and marketing them. I’m still hiring coaches on a one to one basis to give them my sales funnel and look closely at it to get their opinion.

There are many coaches out there, but one must ask “Who coached you” before they make the decision. I think that shows credibility. I’ve chosen many from “gurus” to the little guy. They ALL have helped me.

It’s an ongoing process. When we grow to the “next step” in business, it is time for more learning. Ok..I’ll get off the soap box now, but you know how passionate I am about this lol.

I’m sure going to spread this post around to enlighten many people.

      Hi Donna,

Thank you for stopping by. Yes I thought of zombies cause despite my unlove for the un-dead, it seems I an compare their drive to the drive we should have for our business. As you noted it is critical to build a foundation first. And I feel strongly about the drive we must have i order to succeed in any business.

Also, thank you for that inspiring ‘Go Get It for Barbara Charles Inc!’ I can teach people how to be effective network marketers online. It’s hard enough doing it offline but the world is now online and that is the way to get to the people.

If we could inspire everyone to never give up then we can teach people how to be successful A zombie mentality will keep everyone going and that is the deal.

And you’re welcome in mentioning you. You and David have a wealth of info that’s amazing and I’m so glad you decided to coach. I’m hoping you get many more people and your business grows successfully too as you definitely have that business mentality/zombie mentality.

There are great coaches out there for sure, but we need to know what each can teach us. It’s important to find what you need in your coach however. That’s important.

      And I love your passion!

Thanks for your support and your coaching and your friendship. Have a blessed week.

    Hey Barbara,

I remember that post and I’m with you, zombies ewwwwww. But entrepreneurs, yay!!!

I love the comparisons you made to their persistence and to zombies, eating is a necessity. I would like to think that’s how most entrepreneurs look at things as well. Nothing in life comes easily, we have to work hard if we want to achieve. Not knowing who to trust though, that’s a huge issue for most especially new online.

I know that you have some awesome teachers with Donna and David and of course I’m always thrilled to add my part that I know can help you as well. That’s why we all do what we do right!

One thing I have learned about you is that you are persistent and consistent with what you want to achieve so anyone who wants to move forward and build a great network marketing team with the company they are with needs to work with you. You know what to do and you don’t ever quit and that’s definitely a winning combination my friend.

Love that you revived this post Barbara and it fits this message perfectly. I’ll be sure to share this one as well.

Thanks for the mention my dear and have a fabulous week.

I felt a little weird about renewing this post but I thought it fit the message. And thanks for the kudos although many people may not want to be compared to zombies LOL! But for me, you’re right – I will not quit. That’s because there has to be a better life, a better way and I want it. My wish to the Universe – Law of Attraction!.

Yes Donna and David are great instructions and focus on sales funnel building and have great ideas. I appreciate their coaching.

I appreciate your coaching as well. You have helped me just because we are friends and I can’t thank you enough for that. I would walk to Texas if I had to to help you if you need. All you have to do is call if you need me. It is very rare that a person will always there for me and you are that person. No matter what. Love you much for your support, inspiration, guidance and love. <3

Thanks that you thought the post was appropriate! Needed to get people's attention LOL!

Have a great week my friend. 🙂

LOL Adrienne! I knoooow, right? Zombies! We truly do have a zombie invasion! We truly have a blogging invasion as well
Difference is 1) zombies move on instinct and need do nothing else but move toward their food 😉
      2) Internet marketers need people like you, Donna and David and many other coaches and support because blogging is not instinctive. Rules, just like the rest of the world, are applicable to everything and blogging, business etc. apply and we need to learn the rules in order to be successful. If only we could just go on instinct, everyone would be rich LOL! And that would be a great thing

OMG I so appreciate you being my friend. That you would walk from Texas to help brought tears to my eyes. And you know I’d do the same for you. All you’d have to say is a word and I’d be there. I know I can call you at anytime and I have to tell you how much that means to me. And you’re right, it’s rare to find such a friend, particularly over the Internet. The internet is an amazing thing! 🙂 Some people might think that’s crazy, but the reality of the situation is I don’t even feel worthy to be your friend as I don’t know how much I offer to you as you have given so much to me.

I truly love you back as well, my friend! We understand each other and that is the crux of any friendship. Thank you for being my friend. 🙂 Think I’ll call you my sister-friend! 🙂

In the future, hope I can think of some more interesting topics to get people’s attention. 😉

Have great, great week-end and we’ll talk soon.

You said it exactly, we understand each other and that’s huge! Love that, my sister-friend! 😉

    Hi Barbara,

Lol…I cannot stop laughing…your post was so much fun to read, and so apt 🙂

You are absolutely right about all that you mentioned – I was just nodding my head in agreement! Yes, never ever give up, that is the key to your success. Just when you think that things are closing in on you, if you stick on longer, there will always be a silver lining, only if you wait and remain patient. Been there, done that, and I know nothing works better.

I wish I had a coach, never really had one, though I have my own coaching course I still need to finish! Finding a mentor makes things easy and you are learning through their past experiences and expertise, so it definitely takes you to a much higher level of understanding. The process is much faster, as compared to people like us, who have been self-learners, though sure learners. 🙂

I agree, we do need to set a timeline on your success and keep moving fearlessly towards achieving our goals, though set realistic, small, and doable goals, and later move to larger ones. Lol…yes, and think like a zombie….never give up!

Thanks for sharing this with us. Have a nice week ahead 🙂

      Hi Harleena,

So glad you got a giggle out of the post. I was hoping to help people laugh because that will cause them to remember too!

It took me a long time to get a coach even though I went through 3 or 4. It was necessary though because each coach taught something different. In addition, you learn the person and the personality and that will help you in who you are dealing with as well. Expectation on the person’s needs is always a good thing as you can supply them better with what they need and meet their target goals. Even coaches need coaches LOL! Because there is always a different perspective that help us get to the next level.

Timelines are critical. We don’t want to work 5 years and get nothing out of our work. It is always good to evaluate and re-fresh if necessary!

Thanks so much. Had a good week-end. Sorry for the late response. 🙂
      Have a blessed week.

    Hi Barbara

One of the great things I love about this post is that it is creative and so thought provoking. Who would have thought that a business can be renewed by a Zombie

I agree that you must take your business so serious that you must do all it takes to make it a success. Zombies don’t see failure all they see is their goal and they want to go get their goal at all cost. Even if their goal is far away, it does not matter to them. Even they lose a limp, their hands ain’t useless.

So when Entrepreneurs become Zombies (Not really Zombie), they are not weary but have all the energy they need to succeed. I love your persistence as a marketer and I agree that one needs a coach that will reveal to him all it takes to succeed

    Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for your compliment. Persistence is my middle name. It’s learning how to do something different each time to get to that level of success.

    Hey Barbara,

This was a great analogy about thinking like a Zombie. Yes when it comes to persistent, they are pretty persistent in getting what they want, no matter how many times you cut off their legs, arms, head, they still going to make that effort to keep going.

This is how we should be thinking, that is if we are serious. For most of us we’re run into obstacles, trials and tribulations, but with a well develop passion, can’t nothing deter us.

One wise thing you can do is look for a coach to point out what we’re lacking in and what we can do to make up for it. Some of us are blind to what we’re lacking in, while others of us know but yet don’t know where to go to solve the problem. That’s the beneficial part of having a coach/mentor because more than likely they went through the same thing and can advise you on what to do to get out of your situation.

Also you definitely want to set realistic goals. Yes, it’s ok to dream, but set realistic goals so that you can work your way up to your ultimate goals. This helps you not to get discourage and you can focus on those “little things” that’s hold you back so you can resolve them and keep moving forward!

Thanks Barbara for the great tips! I hope you’re having a great week!

    Hi Barbara
Great tips here. The one that resonated with me most was defining your ‘why’ When we know what we want down to the deepest levels, and not obvious surface level, like wanting more money, for example, we are in a much better position to succeed. When we get clear, it is easier to move forward with confidence and do what needs to be done. Without a strong why, we’ll likely give up the minute things get a bit tough.
kelli recently posted…Navigating the Unknown: How to Build The Trust You Will Get What You WantMy Profile

      Hi Kelli,

Absolutely! I think for a while, there was a big thing on ‘defining your why!’ Then it seems to pass by for a while where there wasn’t much focus on ‘your why.’ But now it’s coming back becaues people recognize it as the defining and one motivating factor. An absolute must.

It does put us in a much better position t succeed as you noted. And one reason why so many give up is that they don’t have a clear direction other than ‘I want to make money.’ That’s just not enough and we have to encourage entrepreneurs to define what they want so they won’t give up. It’s letting everyone know you can do it!

      Thanks for stopping by Kelli.

Be well and have a good week.

    Hey Barbara,

I love how you said that if you haven’t reached a success within a certain time frame to reevaluate your strategy. I think that a lot of people don’t pay attention to what is working and what isn’t. They just continually do something and when it doesn’t work they deem the goal impossible. But really sometimes you have to switch it up, not everything works for everyone and all the time. You have to change with the times.

Really nice how you were able to relate the zombies with business success. It does correlate.

Changing with the times is critical in any business. Even in the schools, my grand daughter is being taught different ways of doing math (boggles my mind cause 2 + 2 is still 4!) <) But it just goes to show that change helps peoople get better if they know when to evaluate and determine if another change is needed. Thanks Lea for stopping by. Hope you are well. Hae a great week-end. Barbara

    Hi Lea,

You are so right. Maybe a simpler description is needed for some people to understand. People need to know when to change your strategy when needed. It’s important for success.

If I were stuck on a mountain and there seemed to be only one likely direction to climb up and get out of that situation, how many times would I try to climb that one way and fail before you start looking for another way. It’s different if there is only one way, but there could be many different ways to success and people need to recognize when it’s time to find another way to climb up or jump off the cliff.

Same with coaches and business strategies. Many people don’t change their strategies until it’s too late and then we fail and that’s a shame.

We have to keep an open mind in business and re-evaluating the good and the bad will always help us keep moving in the direction of success.

    Hi Barbara,

For starters, you’re right. It’s very important to hire the help of coach, when we feel that we are ready to move forward, but just missing that link.

I’ve done just that. I’ve hire a coach in order to help me take my business to the next level.

Lately, I’ve really improved my focus and my writing. Every single time I write a blog post, I know exactly to whom I’m writing. I have my specific avatar, and that’s a great help.

I have big goals for this year. So big so that they are even a bit scary at times. I’m planning on settling down in Italy for a while, but also touring the whole Europe before I get back.

That’s why I need to take my business to a new level, and knowing that I’m getting help and guidance to do that is comforting and a good start.

Great post 🙂 and have a wonderful week!
